Crop wild relatives are the wild ‘cousins’ of our cultivated crops. In the same way that the wolf is related to the dog, CWR are related to our food plants.

Collecting in Portugal

Collection of Avena, Daucus, Hordeum, Lathyrus, Lens, Malus, Medicago, Pisum, and Vicia genepools in Portugal by Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (Universidade de Lisboa) and collaborating institutions.

Collectors from Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência will target crop wild relatives in the gene pools of ten crops: oat, carrot, barley, grass pea, lentil, apple, alfalfa, garden pea, faba bean and common vetch. Collecting will take place during the project period 2014 – 2016.
