Crop wild relatives are the wild ‘cousins’ of our cultivated crops. In the same way that the wolf is related to the dog, CWR are related to our food plants.

Collecting in Ecuador

Collection of wild relatives of potatoes, eggplants, lima beans, rice and sweet potatoes in Ecuador

The Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (INIAP) coordinates collecting efforts in Ecuador.

Collectors from INIAP will target crop wild relatives in the genepools of five crops: sweet potato, rice, lima bean, potato and eggplant. Collecting will take place during the project period 2016 – 2018.
