Crop wild relatives are the wild ‘cousins’ of our cultivated crops. In the same way that the wolf is related to the dog, CWR are related to our food plants.

Collecting in Armenia

Collection of wild relatives in 12 crop genepools in Armenia by the Armenian Botanical Society NGO

The Armenian Botanical Society (ABS) coordinates collecting efforts in Armenia.

Collectors from ABS will target crop wild relatives in the genepools of 12 crops: wheat, oats, carrots, barley, grass pea, apple, alfalfa, pearl millet, pea, rye, sorghum and vetch. Collecting will take place during the project period 2015 – 2017.
