In November, the CWR Project was again in the spotlight, this time at the joint ASA-CSSA-SSSA conference in Minneapolis. Peter Wenzl from the Crop Trust presented a talk entitled “Partnerships at the Heart of a Global Initiative to Collect, Conserve and Utilize Crop Wild Relatives” as part of the “Conserving and Using Crop Wild Relatives: Partnering for Success” session. With so many CWR enthusiasts in the room, it was no wonder that his recount of the CWR Projects’ collaboration philosophy resonated with the audience. Peter talked about both collecting partnerships and pre-breeding projects, showcasing concrete examples of successful partnerships. Some in the audience were (positively) surprised that the Project has achieved such a broad participation of organizations from so many countries.  There were hopes that the CWR Project’s collection agreements could lay the groundwork for future projects with the countries involved. Overall, CWRs seem to be receiving lots of media attention recently, as Colin Khoury from USDA-CIAT outlined in his talk – a nice Christmas present for all CWR enthusiasts out there!
